French bakers

rashi says that French bakers had wooden shelves imbedded in the outer wall of the house to sell their wares. anyone see anything like That?
(this is obliquely related to sukkah which is why i am asking at this time.)

well I guess it's the ancestor of the store window.... since inside the bakery was the oven and preparation area, it couldn't be the boutique part but otherwise I'm stumped.

i did find one picture with a open
store window with a board at the bottom of the window. maybe you have something similar.
