Minchah service - offerings

Postby David_L » Tue Sep 01, 2015 3:05 pm

In my Artscroll siddur (prayer book), the Shacharis (morning) service includes extensive readings from the Talmud describing the Temple offerings, since reading those laws serves as a modern-day substitute for our inability to perform the offerings in the absence of the Temple in Jerusalem.

There are no corresponding readings in the siddur for the Minchah (afternoon) service, even though there were afternoon offerings when the Temple existed. Why is that?

Most likely it's practical; minchah has to be said in the middle of the day, so it needs to be fairly short.

And there are some opinions that do include korbanot as part of minchah. See http://ph.yhb.org.il/en/03-24-02/

Certainly in the Edot Mizrach Mincha korbanot are recited before Ashrei.
