What is your religious background? Born and raised Christian, Converted to Asatru
What brought you to the Torah? Questions/curiosity
Where have you studied Torah?several places
What brought you to this particular forum?the only jewish forum I found

What part of the world do you live in? Vinland (aka USA)
How shall we address you? (eg: your username, your first name, your title, initials, etc)Either by Thorgil or by Godhi Odinnsson

Anything else - family, etcI am a heathen priest with questions about the jewish faith. I studied it for some time and while I know it is not the faith for me I would like to be able to talk to some jewish people about their faith and see what answers you give to some of the answers I have. I would also like to see what your reactions are to some of the claims made by other religions regarding your faith and people. When I ask I mean no harm/disrespect I am only here to learn.

Yes I have noticed this in a few of your posts.
So you have come here, believing it is legitimate to ask us to defend our faith?
This is not the purpose of the board.
The purpose is to discuss judaism and subjects related to judaism, not to defend judaism... there are other forums for that.
If you have questions about Judaism WITHOUT getting into comparative religion, please, ask away...

I am not asking you to defend your faith merely trying to learn the following
1 why you believe what you do
2 how you view other faiths
3 what your thoughts are on what other faiths say.

I made it very clear I am not a jew so if this offends you or makes you feel uncomfortable please do not read my posts

I firmly believe you can learn alot about a culture by knowing just 2 things

1 their religious beliefs and
2 their food

So forgive my being a curious outsider but do not condem me.

#2 and #3 are definitely Right Out by the rules of this forum.

And most of us are probably not terribly interested in #1. No matter what you call it, it certainly sounds like a request to defend our faith to me.

Um You're KIDDING RIGHT?
It is how your comments have been perceived. Telling anyone who legitimately feels that way to "get over themselves" is not appropriate on our boards.
I'm a moderator btw so "please do not read my posts" is NOT a possibility.
I'm sure you understand.

1. What is your religious background:
I don't really understand the question. I never fully understood what the word religious meant. If you're asking if I am Jewish, then the answer is yes.

2: What brought you to the Torah:
As a Jew, I am obligated to follow the Torah's commandments. The Torah provides not only the framework for a just and righteous society but also a journey for the individual to guide his psyche towards perfection and a greater understanding of God.

3. Where have you studied Torah:
In numerous places. I went to Solomon Shechter Day Schools as a child, then to a "Modern Yeshiva High School," although I didn't study too intensively in either place. After high school, I studied at Yeshivat Eretz Hatzvi for two years, where I really dedicated myself to the study of Torah full-time and learned a considerable amount. Since then, I've been searching out different approaches and teachers and continued studying a lot independently. God was great enough to provide me with some incredible teachers from whom I have learned a lot. I currently study at Cornell University, and study Torah in my free time.

4. What brought you to this particular forum:
Yisroel was kind enough to invite me.

5. What part of the world do you live in:
I'm currently all over the place, but usually in Ithaca, NY during the year.

6. How shall we address you:
Eli is fine.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this community.

Eli
