Geulah in our times?

Postby aaron benjamin » Mon Dec 27, 2010 12:03 am

Would it be accurate to say that many of the 'Gedolim' of our generation have said that the Mashiach will come be'H in our times?

Few gedolim are so reckless as to make definitive predictions. However, many have said that we are in the dawning of the Messianic age, and that we have the ability to BRING Moshiach in our time. But whether that actually happens is in our hands.

What would we need to do in order to hasten the geulah?

There are many opinions regarding what is most critical. But all agree: keeping the mitzvos, especially those ben adam lachavero (between man and fellow man), is a good start.

I think there is a saying of Chazal that Mashiach will come in a generation that is entirely meritorious or the opposite etc. I guess you would be describing the first scenario.

The second scenario would be quite bleak.

OK, well I hope that the geulah will come soon, I hope that we won't have to wait too much longer.

The question should not be "how much longer must we wait?" but "what am I doing to bring it closer?"

I hear Rivka, but does it not say in Rambam's (yaarzheit today?) 13 principles of faith that '...even though he may tarry, I will await him each day that he should come'?

Of course. That's not contradictory to what I said. We are not expected to wait passively.
